Charter Extended Day

Welcome to Charter Extended Day

Welcome to the El Dorado County Office of Education Charter Extended Day Child Care Program.

Our philosophy is to provide your child with a safe, nurturing, and stimulating child care environment during your absence. Working closely with school personnel, we provide both social and educational activites, reinforcing and extending skills and concepts presented during the school day.

Children are involved in a variety of activites each week including, but not limited to, homework assistance/quiet time (i.e., listening to stories and songs), choice time (i.e., games and play) and project time (i.e., fine/performing arts and projects usually centered around a seasonal or monthly theme). This diversity is provided to develop high interest, hands-on activites that are enriching and creatively stimulating to your child.

Children may work individually, in small groups, and/or together as a large group. We encourage cross-age tutoring promoting an atmosphere of acceptance and support.

The El Dorado County Office of Education Charter Extended Day Program insures consistent quality in Extended Day programs by providing curriculum planning inservices, audiovisual materials, project ideas, as well as ongoing safety/health workshops Extended Day personnel throughout the year. All sites prioritize services to your family assuring affordable, safe, and excellent care.

TYPES OF PROGRAMS

Traditional Programs

The Traditional program starts when school begins in the fall and operates Monday through Friday, providing before and after school care, as well as full day care during staff development days and noted holidays, with sufficient enrollment.

Year-Round Programs

Many schools offer Year-Round programs. Extended Day follows the school schedule; an Intersession/enrichment program is scheduled for vacation periods providing full day care for off track students.

Summer Session Programs

Full day Summer programs are available during the vacation time for traditional and school programs. This program provides a variety of creative/recreational opportunities for the children's enjoyment.

Kindergarten Programs

Kindergarten programs are available at selected sites, both before, during, and after regular school hours. Sites must provide space for, and request this additional service.

C.A.R.E. Bear Program

This program is designed to help those qualifying students who need extra assistance. The child receives visits from a C.A.R.E. employee, giving an opportunity for additional help academically and/or other "special" needs the child might identify.
