Office of Education Hires New Charter Community School Principal


The El Dorado County Office of Education is pleased to announce that Cara Prentiss has been hired as the new Principal of Charter Community School. Ms. Prentiss will serve as Principal for the El Dorado Trade School, the Campus program, and the Community Day School.

Ms. Prentiss comes to us with an extensive alternative education background of 19 years. Most recently, she served as Principal of Alternative Programs for the Shelton School District in Shelton, Washington. Prior to that, Ms. Prentiss worked as a Principal of Alternative Education for the Banning Unified School District. Among her varied responsibilities throughout her educational career, Ms. Prentiss has served as an administrator for independent and adult education programs, as a high school counselor, and as a Projects Facilitator. Ms. Prentiss has been a Special Education, Corrections, social studies, and reading teacher. Ms. Prentiss believes education should provide a safe learning environment that builds self-confidence and self-esteem for students and staff. Her educational philosophy centers on developing the unique potential that resides in each individual.

Ms. Prentiss earned her Administrative Credential, Masters in Special Education, and Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California.

“I look forward to meeting each student and establishing a positive rapport. I also can’t wait to be a positive contributor to the Charter Community School team,” says Ms. Prentiss.

Charter Community School Executive Director David Publicover states, “We are very pleased in finding someone of Ms. Prentiss’ caliber to serve our Campus, Trade School, and Community Day students and families. Ms. Prentiss has a long, impressive track record of developing highly effective school programs and making deep connections with students. Cara is a perfect fit for Charter Community School.”

Ms. Prentiss assumed her new role effective February 17th.
